Faculty in Cairo FACE 2025
Cairo FACE 2025 was held in Cairo, Egypt, from April 30 to May 2, 2025. I was invited as a faculty member and delivered a lecture titled “Deep Plane Facelift and Surgical Anatomy.” In my presentation, I discussed the evolution of facelift concepts, surgical techniques, and the relevant surgical anatomy in detail.
Global top-tier masters such as Dr. Tim Marten, Dr. Giovanni Botti, and Dr. Mike Nayak participated in this meeting, and I was particularly impressed by the lectures of Dr. Samir Ghoraba, Dr. Dominic Bray, and Dr. Hisham Seify. It was clear that the preservation concept of the deep plane facelift has now become firmly established as a global trend—an approach I have long emphasized and continue to pursue. There was also an interesting procedure presented in deep neck lifting. Sharing this space with giants in the field and gaining inspiration and insight made this a truly meaningful experience.
During the four-day, three-night Cairo FACE World Summit, I chose study over sightseeing. The lectures and faculty in facial rejuvenation surgery were simply outstanding. I decided to leave the pyramids and desert camels for another visit. The gala party was held at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which I briefly toured, saving the magnificent ancient Egyptian artifacts for the future.
On the final day of the congress, the gala dinner featured a remarkable performance by Nancy Ajram, a Lebanese singer and a superstar in the Middle East and Asia. I was seated at a VIP table directly in front of the stage, which allowed me to enjoy the performance very comfortably. During my school years, I spent several years playing in a band as a drummer, performing music by Metallica, Deep Purple, Queen, Green Day, Ozzy Osbourne, as well as Korean bands. Enjoying live music remains one of my hobbies.
Nancy Ajram’s stage presence was exceptional, and the enthusiasm—especially from the female audience—was striking. Although the music was unfamiliar to me, it felt immediately accessible. The combination of traditional Arabic rhythms and instruments with band music was unique. This was my first experience attending a conference and party in the Arab world, and I found it fascinating that the event could be enjoyed so fully without alcohol. It was a refreshing and memorable experience.
I had the pleasure of spending time again with Dr. Tim Marten after many years. In 2012, I had the opportunity to learn directly at his clinic in San Francisco. At that time, I read and reread his papers and observed his surgeries with intense focus. The inspiration I gained then had a significant influence on my own surgical practice. I learned a great deal again from his presentation this time as well—an outstanding lecture befitting a true global master. At the dinner party, we shared old photos and reminisced about the past. I also met his wife, and I was deeply impressed by their humility and thoughtfulness.
This coming June, at ISAPS in Singapore, I will be presenting in the same session. Dr. Gerald O’Daniel and I will serve as co-moderators. I am very much looking forward to presenting and discussing alongside global facelift superstars. We promised to meet again next month in Singapore.
I also met Dr. Dominic Bray from London, UK, whose deep plane facelift concepts and techniques are very similar to my own. He applies Dr. Bryan Mendelson’s theories faithfully, including his dissection techniques. In particular, we shared the same views on the preservation concept and the SMAS entry point.
By chance, we were seated next to each other at the gala dinner, where we had several meaningful conversations. We exchanged thoughts on MAFAC (Mendelson Advanced Facial Anatomy Course) and facelift trends, and we also greeted Dr. Ben Talei via video call. I believe we will continue our academic exchanges frequently in the future.
Dr. Samir Ghoraba, the Founder and President of Cairo FACE 2025, is the colleague who invited me to this congress. We first met at Amsterdam MAFAC 2024, where he attended Group 1, which I led. He demonstrated outstanding expertise across multiple areas of aesthetic plastic surgery and shared similar views with me regarding the preservation concept in deep plane facelift surgery. Actively practicing and engaging both academically and commercially in Cairo and Dubai, he is a dynamic and impressive figure in our field.
Several aspects of Cairo FACE 2025 were particularly impressive. First was the invitation of global top-tier speakers, including Dr. Timothy Marten, Dr. Giovanni Botti, Dr. Mike Nayak, and Dr. Dominic Bray—many of whom are keynote-level speakers at major international meetings. Their lectures were exceptional, presenting cutting-edge content that is shaping global trends in deep plane facelift and deep neck surgery.
The sessions were diverse, featuring not only panel discussions but also live surgery demonstrations and cadaver dissections. The program was highly educational and academically excellent, which is why I chose to spend all three days at the conference venue instead of sightseeing in Egypt. The marketing was also superb, with refined content creation and excellent promotion through social media. Even on site, it was clear how much effort had gone into filming and production.
The gala dinner was held on a grand scale, and Nancy Ajram’s performance at the Grand Egyptian Museum was outstanding. Among approximately 70 faculty members, the majority were from the Arab world, with several from the United States and Europe—and I was the only participant from East Asia. With a strong academic program complemented by elegant dining and engaging activities, this was a highly successful meeting. I believe the Cairo FACE World Summit will become one of the representative aesthetic plastic surgery meetings in the Middle East and Asia. I extend my sincere congratulations and gratitude.
This was my first academic conference held in the Middle East, and Arab culture was unfamiliar to me. I attended the dinner expecting to enjoy a drink, but after waiting for quite some time without being served alcohol, reality set in—it was an Arab country. It was my first experience attending an academic meeting without alcohol. Cairo FACE World Summit, now only in its second edition, successfully gathered numerous global top-tier experts with excellent marketing and event execution. I am very much looking forward to its future.
My global efforts in education and knowledge sharing through RNWOOD will continue in the years ahead.
